Talya Teaser

August 9, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

Ok so this images are really going to tease you. This week we went out on a rare night off and hung out with our friend Talya. She’s moving to Australia in a few days to pursue her passion as a hip hop dancer. I can’t wait to show you more of what we shot that evening, but to be honest I haven’t even had time to look at them all yet! Just wanted to post a quick couple before she leaves so she can take a peeky-peek.

We had so much fun Talya and really wish you weren’t leaving. But now we have another excuse to make our way to Australia :)

There will DEFINITELY be more of these photos on here soon! But for now enjoy these as we spend our Saturday with Leslie and Mark!

More of Talya

August 10, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

What a late post! Today was definitely a recovery day after the awesomeness of last nights wedding. It was pretty much a mushroom cloud of cool. But it took a lot out of us, and we slept a lot today! Then we were off for another fun session this evening.

So yeah, to keep up my streak of posting every day I’m throwing a couple more of Talya at you. Enjoy!

Ridiculously good lookin’ baby photos coming at you tomorrow!

Our little adventure.

August 12, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

So yesterday we headed off on a quick little adventure. It involved some driving, some bike riding, some shooting, and nearly getting locked in a parking garage (thank goodness for emergency exits!).

To keep up the bonus point fun, 5 points to the first person to identify the city, and 5 points to the first person to identify the bloke in the photo (and the two people in the photo aren’t allowed to answer!)

Up on the blog tomorrow is a very fun wedding with a rockstar groom!

Until then,

Lauren :)

Emina & Wisam | Wedding

August 19, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

It’s time to check out some super awesome wedding photos again! Yay!

Emina and Wisam had a bit of a different day than we’re used to, and it was so amazing to experience. Let’s get to it.

Some very cool details to start us off.

Emina’s father waiting for things to get underway.

Wisam arrives at Emina’s parents home to pick up his bride.

The men just hanging out. No matter what culture, you can always see a bunch of men just sitting around, chatting away!

Emina and her dad about to walk out to see Wisam.

The bride and groom see each other for the first time all dressed up! What an expression on his face!

It’s tradition for the bride and groom to take something from her parents house when they leave. Emina’s mother was so sweet, and knew how much her daughter liked this hanging and made sure the uncles took it for her.

Unbelievably tasty baklava.

Then, of course, some cool photos of Emina and Wisam!

It was insanely windy that day! So there are tons of hilarious photos like this of her veil trying to escape. They toughed it out though!

And finally it was time for the reception! There was tons of dancing, especially this one Arabic dance that involved holding hands and dancing in a big line.

Nothing gets you pumped up more than a drummer during dancing.

And one last shot as we were leaving, of the Sutton Place Hotel, where they had the reception!

As you can see, Emina and Wisam actually already had their official marriage ceremony beforehand, and this was the day for the friends and family to celebrate with them! Definitely something unique and so much fun.

Thanks so much you two for letting us be a part of your day!

James & Lauren | Calgary Portrait Adventure

August 20, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

James came to Canada from Australia. And now James is returning to Australia with his girlfriend, Lauren. James had taken some wickedly awesome photos of us and we wanted to return the favour before he left.

So off we went to Calgary for a day trip to do nothing but shoot James and Lauren. It was a fun little escape from the office and a refreshing change of scenery.

When we rolled into Calgary did a quick location scout on our bikes and found one of the coolest places ever. James and Lauren showed up and the game was on.

So much fun was had here. We went on a bit of a photographer power trip and made James get into the shopping cart. I won’t show you all the photos of him giving us the finger for letting Lauren push him down the alley, but just know there were many ;)

Of course he got his turn for a bit of revenge.

Heck yes! How amazing is this photo. The tone, the feel, the light. Perfection.

This one ain’t too shabby either :)

I was getting a shot from an “aerial perspective” and decided to use Rob as my ladder. James had to take a shot and Rob was kind enough to act as though he was in excrutiating pain. Thanks Rob!

We had pretty much the best light in the world. Honestly we kept these two up on this rooftop forever and used the classic line “Just one more shot” a million times because we just couldn’t give it up!

Haha, if you’ve never met James and Lauren this will let you know just what their personalities are like!

So at the end of the shoot we’re all pretty wiped out and hungry and ready to go eat. And of course as soon as we get down to the entrance of the parking garage we were shooting in we found the door to be locked. Oops! First Lauren attempted to climb over the fence. No go.

Then we tried a synchronized jump on the weight pad that lets cars open the door. Clearly we haven’t been eating enough lately, because that was a miserable failure.

Eventually after a bit of wandering we did find an emergency exit, hoped that no alarm would go off, and pushed out in to the glorious freedom of the outside. It was a bit of a walk to get back to the cars, but a funny end to an awesome evening.

These two crazy kids are now off on their way to Australia and ready to tear it up down there. Hopefully one day we’ll make to Oz and get to hang out there!

And if you, our awesome blog reader, want to have this much fun with us and take some wildly awesome photos, make sure to contact us soon so we can hang out before the summer is over!

Steve | Portrait Session

September 17, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

We really love to take photos. That’s pretty evident. But having to shoot for clients every weekend is pretty draining on your creativity. It seems counter-intuitive, but it can actually really help for us to go out and shoot but with no goal in mind. Just to have some fun with a friend, take some cool shots, and just enjoy shooting and experimenting.

Enter Steve. Those of you who have been following along with the blog for a while already know this handsome dude. He is Rob’s best friend, and a great guy to hang out with. He’s the reason we are photographers today, and even though he hasn’t been doing photography lately (he’s too busy being a super cool engineering student) we know we’re going to have tons of adventures with our cameras in the future. Who knows, we might even be able to convince him to join us! Photographers make way more money than engineers…..right?

Anyway, we’ve been wanting to shoot with him for a while now, and finally got a free evening. We packed up the car and drove Downtown to a cool little spot. There was some longboarding, laughing, sticking out tongues, and all the good things that go into a great shoot. Here are the results:

Steve is a pretty crazy athletic guy and was able to scurry up this wall with no problems. I think he’d be pretty awesome at parkour.

I told you so.

At the beginning of the shoot, like most people, Steve was unsure of what to do, where to look, what to do with his hands ;) So I told Rob to make him laugh. Rob stood behind me and did a weird little dance and Steve sure did laugh!

He was also able to bring out the modeling skills.

Rob really digs this sequence.

Shooting a guy skateboarding past with a manual focus lens in a dark parking garage = tough. Rob = a superhero.

Thanks Steve for spending an evening with us! Can’t wait for round #2!

Here are a bunch of shots from the really great session with had with our friend Talya way back. She’s now taking over the Australian dance world!

Make sure to drop us a comment and let us know what you think! We’re getting awfully close the next comment winner!

Nicole & Steve | E-Session

October 16, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

So I’m posting under duress. That’s right, the threats are starting to come in and it’s about time I got back into a good blogging rhythm! Right now I have a list of all the things I still need to blog. Wow, it’s long! But now that the weddings are done, and we’re nearly finished up with our portrait shoots, I’m going to have a lot more time to share all the wonderful stuff we did this summer!

Here is a very fun e-session with did with Nicole and Steve approximately 10 years ago.

How cool is this?? Every once in a while Edmonton surprises us with some really awesome architecture.

I LOVE the way she’s looking at him.

Now this shot is epic. Nicole actually got it printed to display at the wedding. She loved that it looks like he’s smacking her on the head! But no models were harmed in the making of this shot :)

This may be one of my favorite e-session images of the year. So fun!

Super-cute

It was such a wonderful evening, and we got some really nice light.

And one last one of these cutie pies! Just wait until you see how awesome their wedding day was!!

So tomorrow Rob and I are having a spa day to celebrate the end of the season!!! We’re pretty excited about that. What do you guys do to relax after a big week/project/season?

Sarah & Jon | Wedding

October 23, 2008 // Posted by lauren in

Hey folks. Allow me to wax philsophical for a bit here.

One of the greatest surprises this job has handed us in the past couple years is the amazing ability it has to introduce us people we would have never met before. It constantly reminds us of how very very small the world is, and how everyone is connected in ways they couldn’t imagine (at our Chill Session there were countless moments when one member would realize that they knew another member through so-and-so, etc. etc.)

Now I’m not so much one for belief in destiny or fate. But every so often something happens that makes us stop and wonder. On more than one occasion we seem to meet the exact person we need to meet at the perfect time. For instance, we just recently got our rough grade certificate for our home so that we could start landscaping. Probably a mere week before that we sat down with a really cute couple to chat about their wedding, and the groom-to-be just happened to own his own landscaping company. Well, I’ll just say we have the most awesome landscaping on the street and can’t wait to shoot their wedding next year ;)

Sarah and Jon are exactly the kind of people I’m talking about.

Way back when we first started our photography business we had a Valentine’s Special for couples photography. An old classmate of mine from high school contacted us and we did a couples session with her and her boyfriend. He was really into photography and we had a great time chatting about cameras and lenses. But they had to run off right after because they were on their way to an engagement party for his brother.

Fast forward perhaps a year. Sarah and Jon waltz into our meeting room to talk about their wedding. They were the ones that engagement party was for! As we got to talking we realized not only was one of Sarah’s bridesmaids another classmate of mine from junior high, but Jon’s brother (one of the groomsmen) was indeed the fellow from the couples session.

Now that sort of connection is actually fairly common with us. People seem to talk a lot about who did their photography, and we get a lot of great referrals. But this story doesn’t end there.

That was just about the time when Rob and I were thinking of creating The Wedding Travelers. But we knew that we needed more than a Wordpress blog. We needed something custom. We had looked into custom blog companies, but they were crazy expensive. We still hadn’t decided what to do.

It came up in the meeting that Jon was a web developer who just happened to have finished up work on a website for a local (and very very well known) photographer. When we learned that he had a hand in creating what was widely known as one of the most unique wedding photography websites at the time, we were so impressed!

Then we found out his speciality is actually coding for blogs.

This is where it’s sort of hard to believe that nothing like fate exists. Here is the perfect person to help us with our project, at the perfect time, and it certainly helps that the two of them are also crazy fun and awesome!

Anyway, to wrap up a very long story, Jon and his friend Kyle made our Wedding Travelers blog, and from there they decided to create the service that everyone is buzzing about: Fotojournal.

Now we chat with these kids almost every day, we’re hanging out with them tonight, shared a lovely dinner a couple weeks ago, and are looking forward to wine night soon at Jon & Sarah’s! It’s been such a great adventure befriending these two, and we can’t wait to see where we all go next! I hear they are thinking of moving into our neighborhood, and I know we’d have some killer block parties!!

Question: have I EVER had that much pre-amble for wedding photos before? Nope, I don’t think so. But these kids deserved it. Without any more ado, let’s get to some awesome pictures of their beautiful wedding day!

Sarah’s gorgeous dress. I love this neat perspective.

Her reaction when seeing her makeup! Love it!

Meanwhile Rob was with the boys getting shots of Jon doing his hair. If only they knew how long it takes the girls to do the same thing :P

Love the light on this shot. Jon’s looking pretty good as well :)

Usually we post a shot of the bride’s shoes, but this time let’s see the groom’s!

Haha, cat attack!

Their ceremony was probably on one of the hottest days of the summer! It was held at the gorgeous Hastings Lake Gardens, and the resident puppy, Winston, was all decked out for the occasion.

I LOVE these flowers. How amazing do they look! And they managed to withstand the scorching heat as well!

An adorable moment between Sarah and her dad just before going down the aisle.

The ceremony was so beautiful and emotional.

And then it was some time for a few quick photos around Hastings Lake! I present to you, the amazing levitating groomsmen!

And the ladies had to get in on the jumping actions as well!

Here they all are looking stunning. Except Jon, giving us his silly blue steel face. I’d say there are roughly 200 photos from the day of him throwing this at us. It made sorting the photos tons of fun!

Pure. Romance. Honestly.

They were looking simply gorgeous that day.

And were total troopers. Imagine us telling them to go into a greenhouse on the hottest day of the year! They gave us a look, but they managed to stay in there to let us get some great shots!

Jon actually designed the cake! Right on, dude!

Rob managed to steal them away from the reception for a couple minutes to make use of some gorgeous evening light. We sure are glad he did!

The ceremony was at the fabulous Union Bank Inn, one of our fav places!

Hahahaha! Jon sure got a lot of icing in the face, but he was a good sport, and said it tasted really good!

And one last one to finish it off. How cool is this?? Sarah wanted to throw her bouquet off the balcony, so here she is waving to everyone just before it goes!

Well, I hope you all didn’t mind my extra long and sappy entry today. I figured I haven’t posted in a few days, so I better put a bit more effort in!

Jon and Sarah, you guys rock. I’m just saying.

Hearts,
Lauren :)

Reina & Prav | Wedding Teaser

March 23, 2009 // Posted by lauren in

Welcome to the first edition of Monday morning teasers! Every Monday following a wedding we will be blogging a few of our favorite shots of the day, so make sure to keep coming back!

Reina and Prav’s wedding was in the lovely little city of Calgary. The weather was beautiful in the morning, and even though it turned on us in the afternoon we still managed to get some wonderful images of these two very amazing people. I believe the following day Calgary experienced quite the snowstorm, so the weather was holding on just for these guys! Here are a few shots that caught my eye this morning.

Karen & Gary // E-Session

July 10, 2009 // Posted by lauren in

I have a feeling that this is going to be a bit of a routine now, introducing a couple just before their wedding by showing their engagement photos! Karen and Gary are getting married tomorrow and we’re so so stoked for it! I’ll just say one thing: 3 hours of wedding portraits, heck yes!! So check back in one Monday because I KNOW there are going to be some fun shots.

For now, check out their engagement session. Karen and Gary have been together for something like 10 years (give or take, I can’t quite remember!). At that point, I really feel like couples know how to play, and goof around with each other. That makes things fun for us :)

Barbara & Anthony

August 3, 2009 // Posted by lauren in

Just can’t wait to share this one. From earlier today, at the wedding of one of my closest friends, Barbara. Her new husband, Anthony, is the sweetest guy, and I was so incredibly happy to share in their big day! And I’m so honored to have been able to be their photographer. I really, really like this frame :)
